About us

Te Upoko o te Ika a Maui translates as the head of the fish of Maui in te reo Māori.  If you turn a map of the North Island of New Zealand, you can see that the North Island could be viewed as fish, the fish of Maui in Maori folklore.  Wellington lies at the head of the fish, hence the name of the committee.

The committee's region covers the following areas:

  • Wellington City
  • Lower Hutt City
  • Upper Hutt City
  • Porirua City
  • Kapiti coast district
